Rise of the Footsoldier: Retribution — Pat Tate's Ibiza Revenge Quest

Release date: 28 August 2026 (UK/Ireland theatrical)
Director: Nick Nevern
Star: Craig Fairbrass
Status: Not yet released

Pat Tate's heading to Ibiza. Not for the clubs or the beaches — to hunt down whoever killed a friend. That's the entire premise of Rise of the Footsoldier: Retribution, and it's exactly the kind of setup this franchise has always done well: simple moral logic, complicated violence that follows it, and a lead character who doesn't second-guess himself.

The teaser trailer hints at something bigger than the Essex backrooms and nightclub territory of earlier entries. Tate's going up against mercenaries on an island. Sun, sand, and people who absolutely shouldn't have crossed him. It's a gamble — pushing the action scope outward while keeping Fairbrass anchored at the center — but the franchise has earned enough goodwill to take it.

What We Know About the Cast and Crew

Craig Fairbrass returns as Tate across multiple films in the series. This time he's not carrying it alone. The supporting cast is stacked for a British crime film: Tamer Hassan, Leo Gregory, Jamie Foreman, Vincent Regan, Phil Davis, Ross McCall, Jana Perez, and Vanessa Bauer are all confirmed. That's not a small ensemble for a regional crime thriller.

Nick Nevern directs — and he knows this franchise's DNA. Carnaby International, the production company behind the recent films, is handling it. The first teaser is already live on YouTube, which tells you the producers aren't waiting until August to build momentum.

Why This Franchise Still Has an Audience (and It's Not Mainstream)

Rise of the Footsoldier has been running since 2007. That's 19 years. One of the longest-running British crime franchises in modern film history — and it doesn't get the press coverage of a Guy Ritchie production, which is partly why it's survived this long. There's no hype machine demanding it be "important." It's built a genuinely loyal audience precisely because the films don't pretend to be something they're not.

What's striking is that the franchise keeps finding new angles without abandoning what works. The first film was rooted in real crime history (the Rettendon murders). Later entries shifted toward stylized revenge narratives. This one's taking the formula international — which, honestly, feels like a natural escalation after five films in the same Essex ecosystem. Hard to say if the gamble pays off before release, but the appetite is clearly there.

When It's Coming and Where to Watch

The film locks its theatrical release for 28 August 2026 in the UK and Ireland. It hasn't come out yet. No streaming date has been announced, which is normal this far from release (most platform deals happen closer to the window).

Movie OTT's where-to-watch tracker will update the moment distribution rights are confirmed for any platform — they track UK and international listings, so bookmark it if you want to know the second it lands on a streamer. Right now, theatrical is the only confirmed option.

What to Expect When August Arrives

A British crime icon loose in Ibiza, a director who understands the franchise's rhythm, and a cast deep enough to suggest there's actual story underneath the action sequences — not just set-pieces strung together. The August timing means summer audiences get first crack at it.

If you haven't watched the earlier Footsoldier films, they're worth catching in order beforehand. Each one builds on the last, and Fairbrass's interpretation of Tate deepens across the series. You'll get more out of Retribution if you understand what came before it.
