Claus Darholt

Darholt's career kicked off in the early 2000s, right as Danish animation was finding its footing in feature-length comedy. His work on *Terkel in Trouble* (2004) — a darkly funny, deliberately crude animated film based on a Danish novel — put him in the room early. Then came *Journey to Saturn* (2008), another irreverent Danish animated feature that leaned hard into absurdist humor. Two films. Both cult favorites in Denmark. Not a bad start. The middle stretch of his career reads like a who's-who of Danish animation production. *Tre tosser* (2014), *Digital Romance* (2016), *Drømmebyggerne* (2020), and *Ternet Ninja* (2018) — that last one being one of the most commercially successful Danish animated films in recent memory — all feature Darholt as an animator (Det Danske Filminstitut, IMDb). What's worth noting here is the sheer consistency: this isn't someone who had one good decade and faded out. He's been a working presence across nearly every major Danish animated production of the 2010s, which, when you think about how small that industry actually is, says something real about his standing in it. The pivot to directing came with the LEGO Star Wars: *The Freemaker Adventures* episode "Free Fall" in 2016 (IMDb) — a gig that, honestly, represents a different kind of challenge than domestic Danish productions. Coordinating 3D character animation for a globally distributed LEGO property isn't the same as working on a local comedy feature, and Darholt's credit there suggests he can operate at both registers. His most recent work as Animation Lead on *Krølle Bølle* (2024–2025) and Senior 3D Character Animator on *Ternet Ninja 3* and *Team Nuggets* (LinkedIn) confirms he's still very much active — and in increasingly senior roles that carry real creative responsibility on set.
