Chokachi's breakthrough came with *Baywatch*, the syndicated beach-rescue series that was, at its peak in the 1990s, reportedly one of the most-watched television programs on the planet. He joined the cast and became one of the show's recognizable faces during its later run — the kind of role that doesn't always translate into long-term industry momentum, but in his case, it did (Wikipedia). After *Baywatch*, he didn't disappear into the footnotes the way some cast members did. He landed a significant role in *Witchblade*, the TNT supernatural action series based on the Top Cow comic book, which ran in the early 2000s and built a dedicated cult following among fans of genre television (TMDB). *Witchblade* was a different kind of show — darker, more serialized, less about sun and sand and more about mythology and violence — and Chokachi held his own in that tonal shift. The thing nobody mentions is how difficult it actually is to stay relevant across multiple genre shifts in television — from 90s action-syndication to early-2000s cable drama to mid-2000s youth network programming — without the benefit of a major studio contract or a prestige drama to anchor your reputation.
