Benedict's professional acting career built steadily through the early-to-mid 1970s before his first real breakthrough landed in 1978 with *Battlestar Galactica* — the original series, not the reimagined version that came decades later. His Starbuck was a cigar-chomping, card-playing fighter pilot who somehow made recklessness look like a leadership quality. It's a role that holds up, honestly, and it gave Benedict his first taste of a genuinely devoted fan base. Then came *The A-Team* in 1983, and that's where the wider world caught up with him. Running through 1987, the series put Benedict alongside George Peppard, Mr. T, and Dwight Schultz in one of the defining action-comedy franchises of the decade.
