Evan Ross is an American actor who came up in the mid-2000s, part of a generation of young performers who built their early reputations through a mix of television guest spots and supporting film roles before landing something that actually stuck. Born on August 26, 1988, in Greenwich, Connecticut, he's probably best known to mainstream audiences as Messalla in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay franchise, though his career stretches across genres in ways that don't always get acknowledged.

His early work was scrappy — the kind of résumé that reads like someone throwing darts at a board and occasionally hitting something interesting. He appeared in ATL (2006), a coming-of-age drama set in Atlanta's rollerskating subculture that didn't make a lot of noise commercially but gave him something to build on. It's a smaller role within a sprawling ensemble — Messalla is part of the rebel camera crew, more functionary than protagonist — but the franchise gave him a global platform he hadn't had before. Hard to say if that exposure translated into the kind of career leverage it might have for someone with different representation or timing, but it kept his name in circulation during a period when the YA adaptation wave was one of the dominant forces in studio filmmaking.
