The scene where his character sits outside the prison, not quite ready to go in, not quite ready to leave — no dialogue, just the weight of the decision sitting on him — is the kind of quiet work that doesn't make highlight reels but stays with you.

Semper Fi also signaled something about where Courtney seems to want to take his career: away from the pure spectacle, toward stories with more friction and moral texture. He's at his best when the script gives him a character who's genuinely conflicted rather than simply opposed to something. The action chops don't go anywhere — they're part of what he is — but they work best when they're in service of something that actually costs the character. That's the version of Jai Courtney that's worth watching for.
