Brown's professional career got its footing in television. She appeared in The Leftovers, HBO's critically regarded mystery drama, from 2015 to 2017 — a show that asked a lot of its ensemble cast and didn't offer easy emotional shortcuts. She followed that with For the People, an ABC legal drama that ran from 2018 to 2019 (Wikipedia). Neither show is what most people would call a breakout vehicle, but they're the kind of credits that tell casting directors something real about range. The turn came in 2020 and 2021. Her voice and motion capture work as Phin Mason — the Tinkerer — in Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020) was a genuinely different kind of performance challenge, one that required her to anchor a villain's emotional logic without the usual physical tools an actor relies on (TMDB). Then came Sound of Violence (2021), a horror-adjacent thriller that put her in more overtly genre territory. And then Yellowjackets premiered on Showtime in 2021, with Brown playing a teenage Taissa Turner across a dual-timeline structure that's become one of the more talked-about genre series of the decade. The show's still running as of this writing. Scream (2022) is where a lot of general audiences first locked in on her name. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film was a franchise revival built around a new generation of Woodsboro characters — and Brown's role as Mindy Meeks-Martin put her in the middle of a movie that knew exactly what it was doing with genre conventions. She can't play it dumb, and she doesn't. The character's meta-awareness of horror rules is actually one of the film's running devices, and Brown plays those scenes with a dry specificity that lands harder than it should. Scream went on to gross over $81 million worldwide. Hard to say if a Scream VII appearance is confirmed, but the franchise has clearly built around her presence.
