Wadlow got his footing as a filmmaker in the early 2000s, with the 2005 thriller Cry Wolf often cited as the project that put him on the map. He wrote and directed that one — a pattern that would define much of his career. Writing your own material and then directing it isn't the easiest path, but it gives you a level of control over tone that pure-for-hire directors don't always get. The real step-change came with Kick-Ass 2 in 2013. Taking over a sequel to Matthew Vaughn's cult comic-book hit was a high-profile assignment, and Wadlow handled both writing and directing duties on a property with a passionate, opinionated fanbase.
