Lee Yi-kyung

Lee Yi-kyung stepped into the industry in 2011 and spent his first few years doing what most actors do: taking what came. Supporting roles in television dramas — including the massively popular My Love from the Star (2013) — gave him screen time without star billing. He also moved into film early, appearing in Leesong Hee-il's White Night (2012) and Kim Ki-duk's One on One (2014), two projects that sit on very different ends of the Korean cinema spectrum and suggest he wasn't limiting himself to safe commercial choices (TMDB). The television drama School 2013 is cited as an early recognition point, where he reportedly played a rebellious student — the kind of role that's easy to dismiss but hard to do well without making the character feel like a type rather than a person (Wikipedia). Descendants of the Sun (2016) and Confession Couple followed, building his profile in the drama space. Then came Welcome to Waikiki in 2018. His first genuine lead role. The show performed well, and Lee finally had something to point to as his own. His film work kept pace through this period: Confidential Assignment (2017) put him in a commercially successful action thriller, Hitman: Agent Jun (2020) leaned into comedy, and 6/45 (2022) continued that lighter register. Hard to say if the tonal range was deliberate strategy or just good fortune with casting, but it's worked in his favor. Most recently, Marry My Husband (2024) cast him against type in a negative role — the kind of pivot that tends to either redefine a career or confuse audiences. He's currently represented by HB Entertainment and remains active across television, film, and variety formats.
