Kobayashi's screen career got its real footing in 1996, when she was cast as Moll in Rebirth of Mothra — Toho's attempt to relaunch the Mothra franchise for a new audience after years away from the character. Moll and her twin sister Lora (the two fairy guardians who serve as Mothra's human connection) aren't background roles. They're the emotional throughline of the whole trilogy, and Kobayashi held that thread across three consecutive films through 1998. That kind of sustained presence in a franchise, even a genre one, takes real consistency.
