Muhashin

Muhashin's career didn't start with a debut film. It started with other people's films. Before directing anything of his own, he worked as an assistant director for Rosshan Andrrews and Ashraf Hamza — two filmmakers who've shaped a significant chunk of contemporary Malayalam commercial cinema (IMDb). That's not a small thing. Andrrews, in particular, has a reputation for tight, plot-driven narratives, and spending time in that environment clearly left a mark on how Muhashin approaches structure. He also served as a researcher on *Kayamkulam Kochunni* (2018), a sprawling period film about a legendary Kerala outlaw — the kind of project where getting the historical texture right actually matters, and where a researcher's contribution can shape the whole film's credibility. His directorial debut came with *Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham* in 2023, a Malayalam-language film that put him on the map as a director to follow rather than just a capable behind-the-scenes collaborator (Letterboxd). He followed that with *Vala: Story of a Bangle* in 2025 — a title that, even without seeing it, suggests a filmmaker who's drawn to stories with a specific cultural or material anchor, the kind of detail-forward storytelling that rewards patient audiences (IMDb). Two features in roughly two years is a solid pace, and it suggests he's found a rhythm. He's also got an acting credit — just one, in the 2021 short film *Mudi*, playing a character named Sanoj — though it's probably safe to say directing is where his focus lives. His next film, written by Harshad and starring Dhyan Sreenivasan and Lukman, is in development and represents what looks like his most commercially visible project yet (Times of India). Whether it marks a step up in scale or just a continuation of the same careful, craft-first approach he's shown so far, we'll have to wait and see.
