What's striking is how consistently he gravitates toward characters who carry enormous emotional weight while projecting a kind of fragile determination — not the stoic hero type, but the one who's visibly holding himself together.

The role that changed everything for him was Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which premiered in 2019. Tanjiro isn't a complicated character on paper — earnest, kind, fiercely protective of his sister — but the performance Hanae delivered made that simplicity feel hard-earned rather than thin.
