Neil Casey

Casey's career doesn't follow a straight line — and that's kind of the point. He came up through the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York, performing regularly there for over a decade, which gave him a foundation in character-driven comedy that you can feel in basically everything he's done since. The writing work came first, or at least ran parallel. He joined the Saturday Night Live writing staff for the 2012–2013 season and moved to Inside Amy Schumer in 2014, earning Emmy nominations for both — Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, twice over (TMDB). He also wrote for The Kroll Show and contributed to the 2013 film The Heat, which means he was operating at a high level in comedy rooms before most people knew his face. Hard to say if the acting or the writing came more naturally to him, but the résumé suggests he wasn't willing to choose. On the acting side, his series regular roles on Other Space (2015, Yahoo! Screen) and Making History (2017, ABC) gave him sustained screen time, but it was the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot that put him in front of the widest audience — playing Rowan North, a villain whose resentment feels uncomfortably specific and real. His film work has continued steadily since: Fort Tilden (2014), A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018), Greener Grass (2019), Merry Good Enough (2023), and Micro Budget (2024) round out a filmography that skews indie and character-driven. Greener Grass in particular — a surrealist suburban satire — feels like exactly the kind of project Casey gravitates toward. Specific. Strange. Not for everyone.
