Heusinger's screen career got moving in the mid-2000s. *Sweet Land* (2005) was an early film credit, followed by *The Nanny Diaries* (2007) — mainstream studio fare that put him in front of wide audiences early on. Around the same time, he was touring nationally as Sir Lancelot in *Spamalot* (2006–2008), which means he was doing serious theatrical work while simultaneously building a film résumé. That dual track — stage credibility plus screen visibility — is a Juilliard hallmark, and Heusinger ran it well. The period between 2008 and 2012 was busy. He appeared in *Black Swan* (2010), Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller that became one of the defining films of that year, and landed the recurring role of Lord Marcus Beaton on *Gossip Girl* (2008) and Adam Pierce on *Royal Pains* (2010–11) (Wikipedia). Then came *Frances Ha* (2012) — a small, sharp Baumbach film shot in black and white, the kind of project that doesn't pay much but tends to matter a lot to the people who see it. His 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating on that one is the high-water mark of his film work by that metric (Rotten Tomatoes). The back half of the 2010s brought what's probably his highest-profile single role: the villain in *Jack Reacher: Never Go Back* (2016), opposite Tom Cruise. It's a big, loud action movie — don't expect the Baumbach minimalism here — but holding your own as the antagonist in a Tom Cruise vehicle requires a specific kind of screen presence, and Heusinger delivers it. From 2014 to 2017 he was also a series regular on *Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce* as Max McCarthy, and then *Absentia* took over from 2017 to 2020, a three-season run as FBI Special Agent Nick Durand that represents his longest sustained lead role to date (Wikipedia). The show's arrival on Netflix in 2025 has introduced him to a new wave of viewers who missed it the first time around.
