Ram Abbaraju stepped into Telugu cinema as a director with Vivaha Bhojanambu in 2021 — a family comedy that hit well enough to establish him as a name worth watching. It wasn't a splashy debut, but in a film industry where directors often spend years in the wilderness before getting a second shot, a first-film hit is no small thing. His follow-up, Samajavaragamana (2023), is the film that really put him on the map. A blockbuster by most accounts, it also carried Abbaraju's screenplay credit, which means the story's success belongs to him in a more complete sense than it does for a director working from someone else's script. The film's title — borrowed from a beloved classical Telugu song — suggests a sensibility that's rooted in warmth and cultural familiarity rather than edgy reinvention (IMDb). Dhrusti sits awkwardly in his filmography. Released at some point between 2019 and 2023, it's categorized as a flop, and there's not much public documentation around what went wrong or when exactly it came out. Every director has one. It doesn't seem to have derailed him. Looking ahead, Abbaraju has at least two confirmed projects in development — Nari Nari Naduma Murari (2026), starring Sharwanand, and a separate thriller, with yet another family drama also reportedly featuring both Sharwanand and Sree Vishnu (Times of India). That's a full slate for a director who's only a few films into his career. He describes himself on social media as a "Director, Dreamer," which is either endearing or a little on-the-nose depending on your tolerance for that sort of thing — but the work, at least so far, backs it up.
