Hatten's career started the way a lot of Hollywood careers do — quietly, from the inside. His time at Team Downey gave him a foothold, and the spec script he wrote there, Maximum King!, was the kind of calling card that gets you in rooms. Hard to say if that script will ever get made, but it clearly did its job. The real turning point was John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019). Co-writing a sequel to one of the most stylistically distinctive action franchises of its era — one where the mythology of assassin guilds and gold coins had already become its own strange, elaborate joke that audiences were completely in on — isn't a small assignment for a writer still in his mid-twenties. He pulled it off, and the film grossed over $326 million worldwide. That credit opened doors. He went on to write Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves (both 2021) for Zack Snyder's expanding Netflix universe, then returned to co-write John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), which many critics considered the franchise's most ambitious installment yet (Wikipedia). His Rebel Moon work — two films released in 2023 and 2024 — represents the other major strand of his career so far: big-canvas science fiction with Snyder's characteristically maximalist visual approach. Don't let the mixed critical reception fool you; getting two feature-length sci-fi epics produced and released on that scale is no small thing for a writer a decade into his career. Meanwhile, his 2017 spec sale, Ballerina, is finally arriving as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina in 2025, and a Resident Evil feature credit is set for 2026 (Wikipedia). He's also written television — pilot episodes for the satirical series (Future) Cult Classic and the horror series I Know What You Did Last Summer, on which he also served as executive producer (Wikipedia).
