Wolff's career started on camera before most actors his age had even thought about auditioning. The Naked Brothers Band ran on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2009, and it wasn't just a TV gig — Wolff composed the music, and the show's two soundtrack albums both hit No. 23 on the Billboard Top 200 (TMDB). That's not a vanity project. After the series ended, he and Alex formed the duo Nat & Alex Wolff and released the album Black Sheep in 2011 (Wikipedia). Music first, then film — that's the sequence. The film work accelerated fast. Three features in 2013: Admission, Behaving Badly, and Palo Alto — the last of which, based on James Franco's short story collection, put him in unglamorous, naturalistic territory that didn't ask him to be charming. Then came the John Green double: a co-starring role in The Fault in Our Stars (2014) and the lead in Paper Towns (2015) opposite Cara Delevingne. Two adaptations of the same author's work in back-to-back years gave him a specific kind of visibility with younger audiences, though it also risked defining him too narrowly. He also appeared in Ashby (2015), playing a character named Ed (TMDB). The Death Note (2017) casting was the clearest signal that he wasn't going to coast on YA goodwill. Playing Light Turner in Netflix's live-action adaptation — a cold, morally compromised character — required something genuinely different from anything the Green films had demanded. The film drew significant criticism, but it wasn't a safe choice. That counts for something. His filmography since reads like someone who's comfortable with genre edges and psychological weight, even when the projects don't always land with critics.
