Park Ki-woong

Park Ki-woong made his screen debut around 2005, but it's the 2007 film My Tutor Friend 2 that tends to get cited as an early career marker — a commercially minded romantic comedy that gave him visibility before he'd really established a dramatic identity (Wikipedia). The Slingshot in 2009 changed that. Playing a character who is both autistic and a stock market prodigy, he delivered something that felt genuinely specific rather than showy, and the recognition he received for that role set the tone for the kind of actor he'd become: someone who gravitates toward characters with an internal contradiction you can't quite resolve in one viewing. The years between 2011 and 2013 were probably his most high-profile stretch. War of the Arrows (2011), the action-historical film set during the Joseon period, cast him as Prince Doreugon, and it's worth noting that the film was a major domestic box office success. Bridal Mask followed in 2012 — a period drama set during the Japanese colonial era that gave him a lead role with real dramatic weight. Then came Secretly, Greatly (2013), in which he played a North Korean spy embedded in a South Korean neighborhood; it's a film that doesn't quite fit into one genre, and he's convincing in a way that's hard to explain without just saying: watch the thing. After his military service (2014–2015, approximately), he returned with Monster in 2016 and continued steadily through Return (2018) and Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019). His 2023 signing with SidusHQ appears to mark a deliberate push into a new phase of his career, with Pandora: Beneath the Paradise and My Man is Cupid both airing that year, and the film The Chain in development (Wikipedia). Hard to say if The Chain will be his biggest project yet — but the trajectory over 20 years suggests he's not done surprising people.
