Issar's entry into films came with Coolie in 1983 — not the smoothest debut, given that an action sequence during production resulted in a near-fatal injury to Amitabh Bachchan (TMDB). The industry backlash was real, and it followed him. That same year, though, he appeared in Purana Mandir (1983), the cult Indian horror film where he played a second lead role — a very different kind of project, and one that showed early on that he wasn't going to be boxed into a single type (TMDB). The role that defined him for millions of viewers was Duryodhana in Doordarshan's Mahabharat, which ran from 1988 to 1990. That show didn't just attract audiences — it stopped the country on Sunday mornings. Playing Duryodhana, one of the epic's most complex antagonists, required a particular kind of controlled menace, and Issar delivered it across the full run of the serial. It's the performance people still cite first when his name comes up. Then came Border (1997), J.P. Dutta's war film that became one of the defining Indian patriotic films of that decade — Issar appeared alongside an ensemble cast in a production that's still screened on Independence Day (TMDB). His directorial work arrived with Garv: Pride and Honour in 2004, a Salman Khan-fronted action film that placed Issar in the director's chair for a mainstream commercial production (TMDB). Hard to say if he'll return to directing — the facts don't confirm further projects behind the camera — but the credit stands. He also participated in Bigg Boss Season 8 in 2014–2015, which introduced him to a reality television audience that may not have grown up watching Mahabharat. A different kind of visibility, but visibility nonetheless.
