Henry Czerny

Czerny came up through Canadian stage and television before Hollywood took notice — and the stage roots show. There's a stillness to his screen work that you don't get from actors who skipped that training. His early film breakthrough came with The Boys of St. Vincent, a Canadian production that put him on the map domestically, followed by a role in Clear and Present Danger that started opening American doors (TMDB). The role that changed everything was Eugene Kittridge in Brian De Palma's Mission: Impossible (1996) — the IMF director who spends most of the film making you wonder whether Ethan Hunt is chasing the right guy. It's a masterclass in doing a lot with limited screen time, and it's the kind of performance that sticks. Television gave him his longest sustained run: six seasons as Conrad Grayson on Revenge (ABC), a show that leaned hard into soapy melodrama while Czerny played its patriarch with enough genuine menace to keep things grounded. More recently, he's been part of the horror-comedy Ready or Not and appeared in Scream VI (TMDB), proving he's not slowing down. The Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for The Other Half (Wikipedia) signals that critics haven't stopped paying attention either. And with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning bringing Kittridge back one more time, Czerny is having a moment that, if we're being honest, feels overdue.
